By funding schools and athletic departments around the state, Every Kid Plays Foundation is able to help the underprivileged youth in the Phoenix area by providing them with an opportunity to participate in school athletics.
Every Kid Plays Foundation was founded by Nicholas Zalkow, a local high school student-athlete with a passion for athletics and serving others. The foundation strives to create new opportunities for both male and female youth in the Phoenix metropolitan area by funding their participation in structured athletic programs they otherwise could not afford.
MEET US
Mr. Zalkow developed a passion for sports at a very early age. Starting with tee-ball as a child, then transitioning to football in middle school and high school, then finally concluding his athletic career playing rugby at San Diego State University.
As a teenager, Mr. Zalkow felt a strong desire to try and make it possible for kids to have the same opportunities he did in playing sports. He felt that sports had a profound impact on his development and taught him many valuable life lessons. After much thought and help from others on how to best implement this, At the age of 17, Mr. Zalkow established Every Kid Plays Foundation. At its inception, the organization primarily focused on sports. Every Kid Plays Foundation paid sports dues and other required fees for kids who would not afford it.
With the growth of the foundation, Mr. Zalkow broadened EKP’s vision. While continuing to focus on children’s athletics, the organization also provides opportunities for individuals to pursue their passions, whatever they may be. To date, Mr. Zalkow has established several partnerships and grants. These partnerships and grants have been developed to benefit organized sports leagues, literacy foundations, and even support schools in countries like as Kenya and Liberia.
Mr. Zalkow hopes to continue to form relationships with other nonprofit organizations and continue to build on the work that has been done thus far.
